7th November 2009
Paul will present a keynote lecture on the Designs for Life project at the State of the Art 8, Conference, Faculty of Education, University of Strathclyde. Paul and Mhairi Towler will make a joint presentation followed by an afternoon workshop session.

28th October 2009
A reception will be held to mark the launch of the project book. This event will be held in the reception atrium of the Wellcome Trust Building, University of Dundee, 4.30 - 5.30pm. The event is an opportunity to distribute books to the scientist collaborators and reflect on the work as well as discuss possible future development. The publishers, Dundee University Press will be present to promote the book which is aavailable from DUP, Amazon and Borders Books, Dundee.

The publication 'Collaborative Working in Higher Education: The Social Academy -Dr. Lorraine Walsh and Dr. Peter Kahn is released by Routledge. The book features a joint essay by Paul and Mhairi on the Designs for Life project - as a case study.

Paul presents the Designs for Life project as part of a panel discussion at the PFGS Colloquium: Social and Bioscience - a critical collaboration? at the Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Lancaster.

27th September - 1st October 2008
A large selection of works from the project will be exhibited at the Human Genome Organisation Annual Conference, HGM2008, at the Hyderabad International Conference Centre, Hyderabad, India. Paul will discuss the work with delegates over the duration of the event as part of his 'Biografia' series and as Artist in residence.

A large selection of works from the project will be exhibited at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York as part of the Dynamic Organisation of Nuclear Function Conference. This work will be exhibited alongside work from another project Paul has undertaken in recent years at CSHL based around this conference and titled 'Pertaining to Origins'. A public discussion and preview will take place in the Racker Room, Blackford Hall on the 16th at 5pm. Paul will also be available to discuss the work with delegates throughout the duration of the event.

MSP Nicola Sturgeon opens the new Clinical Research Centre at Ninewells campus and is presented with a framed digital image of the project work in collaboration with Inke Nathke: 'Endocrine Kiting'

Work begins on the design and production of the project book publication. This will include collaborators and group sections along with a series of reflective and observational essays.

16th June - 28th August 2008
Twelve framed prints, one from each collaboration, are exhbited in the new Queen Mother Building, 'The Street' University of Dundee. Initially as part of the Graduation Days events and then as the Summer Exhibition. The exhibition features as the backdrop for visiting delegations over the Summer.

As part of the National Festival of Social Science Paul and Dr Fiona Coyle (CESAGen/University of Cardiff) present a series of Collage workshops to local schools based on experience in the Designs for Life project and Pauls experience as Artist in Residence at CESAGen. The workshops form part of a broader programme delivered with Alastair Gentry (Genomics Forum Artist in Residence), Dr Jane Calvert (Innogen/University of Edinburgh), Bonnie Green (Egenis Researcher/University of Exeter) and Lara Crossland (ESRC Genomics Forum). The events are organised by Lara and Dr Steve Sturdy at the ESRC Genomics Forum.

Up to 300 people fill the Bonar Hall for the performance by the Scottish Ensemble of the new composition by Alex Smoke. A piece commissioned specificaly to respond to the themes of the Project. The performance is recorded and will be available in an appropriate format in the near future.

Invited speakers deliver a series of 'perspectives on the convergence of arts practice and bioscience' to an audience of delegates from around the UK, participants from the project and 'local' artists, scientists and interested individuals.

Participants from the 16-24 Adult Literacy Group visit the VRC for a practical collage workshop with DCC Creative Learning Team.

Poet Mark Thomson who worked initially with the 16-24 Adult Literacy Group returns to the DCA/VRC to record a reading of his poem 'Dinna mess wi meh jeans'. Written as part of the initial workshop and recently published by Luath Press in his collection of poems; 'Bard fae thi buildin site'.

The live webcams are set up in the VRC publishing facility and the WTB Laboratory. (Lamondlab - Division of gene regulation and expression) for 'screening' during the exhibition.

The Mens Group of Dundee Healthy Living Initiative return to the VRC with the work they have been doing in response to the project and partake in a 'Performative' Meal with members of DCC creative learning team, artists Paul Harrison and Scott Hudson and scientist collaborator Alan Prescott. The meal and discussion is recorded live in Centrespace Gallery VRC.

The Womens group of Dundee Healthy Living Initiative visit the VRC as an introduction to the project and as a starting point for their own production. They have proposed to attempt a large scale three dimensional textile response to the material which will be presented as part of the exhibition at the VRC.

A series of Eye Tracking experiments are carried out on volunteers with Dr Ben Tatler in the University of Dundee, Psychology Department - Visual Perception Lab. This involved controlled viewing of a selection of the images produced to date. The recorded data will be processed in coming weeks.

Scottish Arts Council fund a commission organised by Dundee City Arts Council Music Development Officer Emily Dewhurst. The result is that Alex Smoke is commissioned to write a piece of new music in response to the work and themes of the Designs for Life project.
